Final stay-at-home enforcement numbers in Denver: 33 citations to businesses, 1 person cited

The city issued 34 citations -- the ones that could result in an up to $999 fine -- to alleged violators of the stay-at-home orders, which began March 24 and ended May 9.

The vast majority, 33, were issued to businesses, while a man received the citation after the city said he refused to stop playing football at Wash Park.

Three citations first issued were later withdrawn or dismissed. A few businesses received multiple citations. Ryan Luby, a spokesperson for the City Attorney's office, said all the citations are pending, since courts have not been operating regularly due to the pandemic.

The enforcement team made 14,894 contacts and issued 13,308 warnings between March 24 to May 10. (While the order expired on May 9, the city was still issuing contacts and warnings as it shifted to a safer-at-home policy. City spokesperson Erika R. Martinez said the city continued making contact to educate people about the transition and the new face-covering order.)
