On August 12, international event promoters AEG announced they'd be requiring proof of vaccination at all of its U.S. venues. The groups' Colorado branch, AEG Presents: Rocky Mountains, produces concerts and other events at venues like Fiddler's Green, 1STBANK Center, Bluebird Theater, Ogden Theatre and Gothic Theatre. And while AEG produces some shows at Red Rocks and Ball Arena, the new policy does not apply at either venue, as Red Red Rocks is owned and operated by Denver Arts & Venues and Ball Arena is owned by Kroenke Sports & Entertainment.
"We have come to the conclusion that, as a market leader, it was up to us to take a real stand on vaccination status," said Jay Marciano, AEG's COO and the Chairman and CEO of AEG Presents. "Just a few weeks ago, we were optimistic about where our business, and country, were heading. The Delta variant, combined with vaccine hesitancy, is pushing us in the wrong direction again. We realize that some people might look at this as a dramatic step, but it's the right one. We also are aware that there might be some initial pushback, but I'm confident and hopeful that, at the end of the day, we will be on the right side of history and doing what's best for artists, fans, and live event workers."
By no later than October 1, 2021, all concertgoers and event staff attending AEG events are expected to be fully vaccinated. Per the company's website, they chose that date to allow ticket holders time to get their shots. Until October 1, AEG will be asking patrons to show either proof of vaccination or proof of a negative COVID test taken up to 72 hours before the event.
"Our hope is that our pro-active stance encourages people to do the right thing and get vaccinated," said Marciano. "I think everyone can agree that we don't want concerts to go away again, and this is the best way to keep that from happening."
The company joins a growing list of businesses requiring Colorado patrons to be fully vaccinated, including Underground Music Showcase and Bonanno Concepts bars and restaurants like Milk Market and Vesper Lounge.
Correction: This story has been updated to clarify that AEG's policy does not apply to Red Rocks and Ball Arena shows at this time.
