Gov. Jared Polis, Lieutenant Governor Dianne Primavera and other state office holders will be inaugurated tomorrow at the Colorado State Capitol.

Choruses will sing. They Might Be Giants, Belinda Carlisle and Carly Rae Jepsen are all set to play in concert Tuesday evening.

It's a whole thing.

But what does this all mean if you live or work nearby?

In short, it's going to be pretty loud around Civic Center Park tomorrow.

Tuesday's ceremony, which starts at 10:30 a.m., will feature an F-16 fighter jet, cannon salute and a military band playing, according to a statement from the Colorado National Guard.

Members from the national guard will fire 38 blank shots from a cannon, symbolizing Colorado's admission to the Union as the 38th state. It's likely a few additional practice shots will likely be heard before the ceremony begins.

A spokesperson for the Colorado National Guard said the sound will be loud enough that it "could rattle windows" nearby - but added that there's no danger to the public.

And a number of streets will be closed for several hours.

  • Lincoln Street will be closed from 13th to Colfax Avenues.
  • Sherman Street will be closed between 13th and 14th Avenues.
  • Grant Street will have lane closures from 14th to Colfax Avenues.
  • 14th Avenue will be closed from Broadway to Grant Street.
