With the first snow of the season possible this weekend, Denver is opening emergency overnight shelters from 7 p.m. Saturday through 7 a.m. Sunday.

The shelters are located at the former Best Western Hotel at 4595 Quebec St. and the Denver Coliseum at 4600 Humboldt St. They will operate in addition to the city's existing shelters, which are expanding capacity. Rec centers and libraries will also double as warming centers on Sunday and Monday during normal operating hours.

Temperatures are expected to drop to the 30s Saturday morning and stay there through early Monday morning. According to the National Weather Service, the Denver metro could get between four and nine inches of snow throughout the weekend.

In a statement, city officials said people seeking shelter Saturday should start with Denver's longstanding shelters. When those shelters reach capacity, the city will refer people to the St. Francis Center at 2323 Curtis St. between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m., which will have transportation to overflow shelters. After 9 p.m., people should head directly to the Coliseum.

Families looking for shelter can call the Connection Center at 303-295-3366.
