Temperatures will drop below freezing on Thanksgiving and through the weekend. Snow is also expected.

That forecast is prompting the city to open emergency cold weather shelters Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights. The shelters will be open from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.

Overnight shelters will be open at New Directions, the former Best Western, at 4595 Quebec St., and the Denver Coliseum at 4600 Humboldt St.

People seeking shelter should start at the "front door shelters," including Lawrence Street Community Center at 2222 Lawrence St. for men, Samaritan House at 2301 Lawrence St. for women and Urban Peak at 2100 Stout St. for youth. Find more information about "front door shelters" here.

Families can also call the Connection Center at 303-295-3366.

Temperatures could drop to a low of 14 on Friday night, according to the National Weather Service, and stay between the high teens to mid-30s through Sunday. Snow is most likely to fall Thursday night and Friday morning, and there's a chance for more Friday night and Saturday.
