The Denver Police Department has arrested one of the two suspects in the February theft of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. memorial in City Park.

Robert Duran turned himself in on Thursday. Denver Police are still looking for the other suspect, Herman Duran.

The police announced last week that 10 bronze pieces, including portions of the Joseph Addison Thatcher Memorial Fountain, were sold to a local business after their theft in February.

Denver Police said in a statement Monday that Robert Duran was arrested for Investigation of Criminal Mischief, which could lead to fines ranging from $20,000 to $99,999, but added that final charges will be up to the District Attorney's Office.

Vern L. Howard, Chair of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Colorado Holiday Commission, said the memorial could cost between $75,000 and $100,000 to fix. He and other community leaders, including former mayor Wellington Webb and former state rep. Wilma Webb, have created a fundraising campaign to fix the memorial.
