While Coors Field's dining options have historically included barbeque, tacos and even elk bratwurst, its options for vegan baseball fans have been lacking.
That will change this season as the stadium introduces a new plant-based food stand for when the Rockies' upcoming season starts on April 5.
"After months of research and testing, the Aramark culinary team has created a unique, vegan menu with a robust flavor profile that mimics the taste and texture of real meat," said Richard Grab, Director of Culinary Innovation for Aramark Sports + Entertainment, the company that manages dining options at Coors Field.
The concept will be called Better-Off Burgers and it will sell plant-based burgers, chips and shakes. Aramark said the plan aligns with their goal of catering to diverse customers and "reduce the greenhouse gas emissions associated with the food it serves."
The menu will include items like traditional and specialty burgers with plant-based patties and shakes made with tahini.
The Rockies are hoping they can muster up more than vegan burgers to excite fans this season. The team finished last season with a 59-103 record, one of the worst in Major League Baseball.
Here are the items on Better-Off Burgers' upcoming menu:
- The Original, a plant-based burger with "burger sauce," pickles, and vegan cheddar cheese. Available add-ons include roasted mushrooms, onions, and avocado.
- Chorizo Burger, a plant-based burger with "chorizo," vegan smoked gouda, roasted peppers, bibb lettuce, and chipotle aioli.
- Medi Burger, a plant-based burger with za'atar, carrot sumac slaw, harissa mayo, olive tapenade, and bibb lettuce.
- Vanilla and strawberry shakes made with tahini, oat milk, banana, dates, and protein powder.
