This week, an all-new touring production of the Broadway hit Hairspray arrived in Denver

However, the opening has been delayed due to an accidental activation of the sprinkler system in the Buell Theatre.

The water damage canceled Tuesday's opening night and while The Denver Center for the Performing Arts was optimistic that performances could begin Wednesday, that isn't to be.

In a  statement today, DCPA spokesperson Heidi Bosk said, "Upon further review, we have determined that we need one more day to complete our load-in and thoroughly test our systems to ensure that we can provide the quality production our community is accustomed to."

Bosk said DCPA is contacting Tuesday and Wednesday ticket holders to offer them the opportunity to exchange for a later performance or receive a refund.

Performances are expected to resume tomorrow, Thursday, March 7.
