This weekend’s free or discounted admission day at some of the city’s cultural institutions will coincide with a celebration of Denver’s up and coming.
In Mexico Día del Niño, or Children’s Day, started in 1925 following a world conference on child welfare held in Geneva, Switzerland that summer. It is celebrated on April 30.
Partnerships between Golden Triangle organizations and the Mexican Cultural Center have come together for over two decades, curating neighborhood-wide festival programming that celebrates Denver’s youth.
Here are six cultural organizations offering free general admission, discounted offers and special Children’s Day events:
Denver Zoo
Date: Saturday, April 27, 11-2 p.m.
The zoo is offering a buy one adult ticket, get one child ticket free on Saturday. There will also be special performances by the Colorado Youth Mariachi Band as well as a community art class taught by local artist Cal Duran. Reserve your tickets online in advance.
Denver Museum of Nature and Science
Date: Sunday, April 28, 9-5 p.m.
Enjoy free general admission to DMNS as well as other special dance performances, music and activities for the family. Guests can also get a 50 percent off admission to the temporary exhibition “Orcas: Our Shared Future” as well as Infinity Theater and Gates Planetarium showings. Denver Art Museum
Date: Sunday, April 28, 10-5 p.m.
Enjoy free general admission to DAM and view as many as 17 different performing groups throughout the day. Visitors will also get a chance to experience the Monarch Butterfly Biosphere in Michoacán, Mexico, through virtual reality visors provided by the Mexican Consulate General in Denver and the Butterfly Pavilion. Kids can also get a free book during a celebrity guest reading at 11 a.m. in the Sturm Pavilion.
Denver Public Central Library
Date: Sunday, April 28, 12-3 p.m.
Stop by the Children’s Library at Central Library for live music, dance performances and other family friendly activities throughout the afternoon.
Clyfford Still Museum
Date: Sunday, April 28, 10:30-12:45 p.m.
Enjoy free general admission to the Clyfford Still Museum and decorate screen-printed paper puppets created by artist Leticia Dominguez from 10:30-12:30 p.m. There will also be dance performances from 10:30-12:30 p.m.
History Colorado
Date: Sunday, April 28, 10-5 p.m.
Enjoy free general admission to the History Colorado Center and enjoy performances by local and international artists throughout the day.
