The iconic Sundance Film Festival is coming to Boulder in January, but first, festival organizers will make a trip across the metro area to build up the hype.
The festival is partnering with several local organizations to put on movie screenings at various venues. Events include:
- “BLKNWS: Terms & Conditions”, a “docufiction” film directed by Kahlil Joseph — May 29, 7 p.m. at Denver’s Museum of Contemporary Art
- “The Best Summer”, a music documentary featuring the Beastie Boys, Sonic Youth, Foo Fighters and more, directed by Tamra Davis — May 29, 7 p.m. at Outside Days on the Auraria Campus
- “Andrea Gibson: Love Letter from the Afterlife”, a recording of the late Colorado Poet Laureate's Paramount Theatre set in 2024 with a live performance by the Colorado Symphony — July 5, 7:30 p.m. at Red Rocks Amphitheatre
- “Little Miss Sunshine”, to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the movie directed by Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris, featuring live performances by Wheelchair Sports Camp and DeVotchKa — July 13, 7 p.m. at Red Rocks Amphitheatre.
The Sundance team will also appear at booths during various community events this summer, including Outside Days, the Juneteenth Music Festival, Denver Pridefest and more.
Boulder is becoming the new venue for the film festival after a long stint in Utah. Its Boulder venues include nearly every public and private space in the city. Tickets will go on sale in October, ahead of the January festival. The schedule will be available in early- to mid-December.
It isn’t clear whether more venues — either within Boulder and outside the city — will be announced. During Sundance’s final festival in Park City, several venues in Salt Lake City were also used.
