A participant in the Ironman race in Boulder was killed by a car on Sunday, 7News reports.
UPDATE: The athlete killed during the Boulder Ironman event Sunday has been identified as Michelle Walters, 34, of McCook, Nebraska.
The Boulder Daily Camera reports that she was struck on U.S. 36 just north of Broadway just before 10 AM. An investigation into the accident is ongoing, but Colorado State Patrol officials do not believe speed or intoxicants were factors.
“We are deeply saddened to confirm the death of one of our athletes at IRONMAN Boulder," an IRONMAN Boulder official said in a statement.
The name of the driver involved in the crash has not yet been released.
