Denverites celebrated the return of Broncos football by buying a lot of weed, apparently

Sometimes it’s halftime, and you realize you didn’t get everything you meant to get before the game started.

Football fans love weed, too, man. (Kevin J. Beaty/Denverite)

Denverites celebrated the return of Broncos football earlier this month in several different ways. Some grilled and tailgated outside Mile High Stadium in the hours leading up to Denver's dramatic win over the Carolina Panthers on Sept. 8. Others hung out with Mayor Michael Hancock at Civic Park Center.

And then were those who just bought a bunch of weed.

Baker, a company that tracks cannabis orders at 77 different dispensaries in Colorado, took a close look at how many weed products were sold specifically in Denver on the day of the Broncos' season opener.

Here's a graph that shows different Denver dispensaries' sales when the Broncos and Panthers played versus what a typical Thursday looks like.

Two things stick out here.

Number one is the spike in sales Denver dispensaries received around lunch. There appears to be 700 total orders at noon on Sept. 8. On a normal Thursday, that number is around 400.

The second is the jump dispensaries got during halftime. There was an approximate 300 percent increase in total orders during halftime compared to the number of orders that occur around 8:15 p.m. most Thursdays, according to Baker.

Sometimes you just need a little pick-me-up before the second half starts, I guess.
