Coffman was at the Colorado GOP’s election-night event in Greenwood Village, where he took the stage to acknowledge that he had likely beat Democrat Morgan Carroll and won re-election to the U.S. House.
As he did, he was heckled — “Who’d you vote for?” one person exclaimed, which was followed by booing. “Trump! Trump!” people shouted.
Coffman got applause and cheers as well, especially as he moved on to promise a continued fight “against the culture of corruption and bureaucratic incompetence inside the VA” and for a balanced budget.
Then he took a victory lap, brushing aside the doubts that had dogged his campaign in a district that had been redrawn to include many more Latino voters:
“‘The environment is too tough … and the Republican could never win the support of minority communities,’ they said, and we proved them wrong,” Coffman said.
As he concluded, chants of “Trump” could be heard again.
