Denver’s own Flobots decided to release a song from their upcoming album “No Enemies” today in response to the election.

The band made the song, “Rattle the Cage,” available on SoundCloud and shared it with fans on Facebook, writing, “Wounds are raw. The pain is real. We wanted to share something a little earlier than planned. This is a song for all of us.”

The bedrock of the song is a chorus of women who begin with the refrain “don’t rattle the cage if you want to come out” and over the course of the song flip it to “we rattle the cage ’cause we wanna come out.”

It’s murky, a down-tempo track over which MC Jonny 5 (Jamie Laurie) delivers rapid-fire verses about fear and violence, and eventually slows it down for a plainspoken message:

“In the war against fear we are on the same side / That’s why we rattle the cage.”

“No Enemies” will be part Flobots album and part collection of protest songs. It’s expected out early next year.
