After more than two decades as an anchor on 9News, Adele Arakawa will retire on June 30, 2017, the Denver Post reports.

9News was planning to make the announcement during tonight’s late news broadcast, but a rumor that TEGNA had offered Arakawa a buyout prompted her to make her announcement early and set the record straight.

It wasn’t about money, she told the Post.

“Frankly, I never made a secret of the fact that I’m not going to work beyond a certain age. I’m surprised I’ve lasted as long as I have,” she said.

Arakawa will turn 60 two weeks after her retirement date.
