The Broncos reportedly won’t pick up Russell Okung’s option

The Broncos informed Russell Okung, who negotiated his own contract with Denver last year, that it wouldn’t be picking up his option, Fox Sports’ Jay Glazer reported Thursday.

It sounds like the Denver Broncos are going to be in the market for a new left tackle.

The Broncos informed Russell Okung, who negotiated his own contract with Denver last year, that it wouldn’t be picking up his option, Fox Sports’ Jay Glazer reported Thursday.

Picking up the $1 million would have activated a four-year deal worth $48 million, including $20.5 million in guaranteed money. That was apparently too high a price for the Broncos, who got inconsistent play from Okung in 2016.

Offensive line was a point of weakness for the Broncos last season. What they do to repair it this offseason could go a long way in determining if they’re back in the playoffs in 2017. It’s possible they’ll need two new tackles. Donald Stephenson, who played the right tackle spot last year, could be released after disappointing play in his first season in Denver.
