Man shot dead by police in Westminster

An unidentified man was killed on Tuesday in Westminster by police officers who were investigating a car theft, according to the Westminster Police Department.

The man pointed a weapon at officers before he was shot, according to Westminster PD. No description of the weapon was given. Officers suspected the man was “associated” with a stolen car.

The shooting happened near Cotton Creek Elementary, which was briefly placed on lockdown. The incident was close to 112th Avenue and Stuart Street, according to Westminster police.

Four officers fired at the man, including two Colorado State Patrol troopers and officers from Wheat Ridge and Lakewood, The Denver Post reported.

The deceased has not yet been identified publicly
