The Denver Broncos are sitting down with highly rated NFL running back prospect Joe Mixon at their team headquarters Thursday, according to multiple reports.
In 2014, Mixon was caught on tape punching a woman in the face at a sandwich shop in Norman, Oklahoma. He is also widely regarded as one of the most talented prospects in the upcoming draft.
The woman, Amelia Rae Molitor, pushed Mixon. Mixon responded by punching her so hard, he broke her jaw and cheekbone. There is video of the incident here.
Mixon wound up pleading guilty to a misdemeanor assault charge to settle the criminal case. He was not invited to the NFL Scouting Combine because of his actions.
Mixon put up huge numbers in two seasons at Oklahoma. As a sophomore in 2016, he registered 1,274 rushing yards (6.8 per carry) and 10 touchdowns on the ground, while catching 37 passes for 538 yards and five touchdowns. He had one of the better all-around seasons of any college football player, which is why so many teams are sitting down with him ahead of the draft. Denver is one of a dozen teams Mixon will meet with, per USA Today Sports.
It's hard to know in which round Mixon will be taken. Last year, the Kansas City Chiefs chose Tyreek Hill, who pleaded guilty to a domestic abuse incident in which he allegedly punched his pregnant girlfriend in the stomach and choked her, in the fifth round. Hill wound up scoring 12 touchdowns and finished as first-team All-Pro as a punt returner as a rookie.
The Broncos have C.J. Anderson, Devontae Booker and Kapri Bibbs returning at running back in 2017.
