Dick's Sporting Goods is holding a grand opening weekend April 21-23 for its new store at Colorado Mills.

The Pittsburgh-based sporting goods retailer is taking the place of a former Sports Authority store at the Lakewood shopping center. Dick's will feature giveaways, a youth skills challenge and former Colorado Rockies outfielder Dante Bichette for the grand opening celebration, according to a news release.

Altogether Dick's is opening six new stores this month including the ones in Lakewood, Pueblo, Missouri, Texas and New York. The openings bring the retailer's total, national store count to 692 locations.

"Having an expanded presence in these cities will allow us to better serve the athletes and outdoor enthusiasts who live there," said Lauren Hobart, executive vice president and chief consumer and digital officer, in a statement.

Dick's scooped up the locations of several former Sports Authority properties, as well as the intellectual property of the company over all, after the Englewood-based retailer filed for bankruptcy last year.
