Longtime Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler, who played his first three seasons with the Broncos before getting traded to the Windy City, is reportedly thinking about retiring from football and going into broadcasting.
ESPN's Adam Schefter reported Thursday that Cutler flew to Los Angeles last week and auditioned for a color commentator role with FOX. The TV giant needs a new analyst in the booth after John Lynch, another former Bronco, left to become general manager of the San Francisco 49ers.
When I go home tonight, I'm going to say a little prayer to the football gods to make this happen. Hearing him call a game every week has the potential to make fantastic television.
Would Cutler establish himself as the anti-Jon Gruden? Would anything impress him? Imagine Odell Beckham Jr. making a wild one-handed catch on the sideline to pick up a third down.
"A fantastic catch on third-and-12," Burkdhardt says, tilting his head toward Cutler.
"Pretty good," Cutler says with glazed eyes.
Cutler seems like the type of guy who doesn't care if he offends someone. The world needs a color commentator whose apathy is so palpable it inspired a Tumblr dedicated to photoshopping cigarettes into his mouth.
Please let this happen.
