With Denver Broncos training camp set to begin Thursday, head coach Vance Joseph fielded questions about the upcoming season. Naturally, most of them centered around the Broncos quarterback battle.

Who's going to win the starting job? When will it be decided? Do you agree that Paxton Lynch looks like a pirate?

OK, no one asked Joseph that last one. But Joseph was asked about a timeline for choosing between Lynch and last year's starter Trevor Siemian. The Broncos first-year coach said that while he won't rush a decision, "it would be ideal" to pick a starter before Denver's third preseason game.

The Broncos' third preseason game is Aug. 26 against the Green Bay Packers. They finish up preseason play Aug. 31 vs. the Arizona Cardinals before beginning the regular season Sept. 11 against the Los Angeles Chargers on Monday Night Football.

"It's going to separate itself," Joseph said. "Someone's going to show that they're the best man for our team. And when he does, I'll call it off."

Siemian beat out Lynch and Mark Sanchez for the starting gig in the preseason last year. Siemian wound up starting 14 games. He threw for 3,401 yards, 18 TD and 10 interceptions, while completing 59.5 percent of his passes.

Lynch, who Denver traded up to get in the first round of the 2016 draft, started the two games Siemian missed because of injuries. Lynch threw for 497 yards, two touchdowns and one interception.

"I'm not concerned with the timeframe," Joseph said. "We're going to find the best guy for us. And again guys, it's here. It's going to happen quickly. ... It's weeks away. How many weeks? I don't know. But it's weeks away."
