Another low-cost carrier will be able to take you to Calgary pretty soon. Canada’s WestJet will fly daily from Denver to Calgary starting in March 2018.
WestJet joins Frontier as one of two airlines to announce the new destination this summer.
If you’re saying to yourself, “Really? Calgary?” — turns out Calgary is Denver’s third-largest Canadian market, according to the airport. And furthermore, Canada is Denver’s second-largest international market, with 12 percent of all international travel.
WestJet said in a release that customers can expect pay about $150 for a one-way trip, and that the Denver flight will leave at 1:15 in the afternoon.
“With its sophisticated business economy and stunning mountain scenery, Denver is a natural for the WestJet network,” said Ed Sims, a WestJet executive vice-president in a release.
Normally, I don’t place much credence in the cultural exchange between airport destinations. But, my mother-in-law is always talking about how Calgary and Denver are similar, and so it’s fun for me to see that idea borne out commercially.
