U.S. Sen. Cory Gardner will be joining a bipartisan congressional delegation to Puerto Rico at the request of the White House, his office said Thursday.
The delegation will travel to the storm-ravaged island with officials from the White House, the Department of Homeland Security and the Department of Defense. They'll be surveying storm-damaged areas and meeting with Puerto Rican officials, including Gov. Rico Rossello. Gardner has used his role on the Subcommittee on Energy to call for the Department of Energy to assist with restoring power to the island, where electricity remains out over 90 percent of the territory.
Gardner had been scheduled to hold a town hall in Pueblo on Friday, but instead he'll be staying in Washington, D.C., to participating in briefings before leaving Saturday.
Gardner said in a press release that he will reschedule the town hall.
