Thirsty Monk Brewery & Pub plans to take over an existing brewery in City Park West later this month for its expansion into the Mile High City, the company announced Thursday.
Thirsty Monk wants to be up and running in Deep Draft Brewing Co.'s space near the southeast corner of East 17th and Franklin streets around Thanksgiving. The brewpub based out of Asheville, North Carolina is bringing Crooked Stave brewer Brian Grace on as chief beer maker for the site, said Barry Bialik, CEO of Thirsty Monk.
Deep Draft opened its 1,300-square-foot brewery in 2015. The owner, Rob Lee, said personal reasons led to the sale and that the purchase is expected to be finalized Wednesday. The sale price was not disclosed.
Thirsty Monk announced Thursday that it was expanding to Denver and Portland, Oregon. The brewpub rooted in Belgian-style beers opened in 2008 and currently has four locations in Asheville.
Being in Denver and Portland will help Thirsty Monk "learn from some of the country’s best craft beer markets," Bialik said.
In Denver, Thirsty Monk plans to take over the space adjacent of Deep Draft where Blue Wave Design is located. The company is also looking for warehouse space nearby.
"It's a great city," Bialik said. "Asheville's grown, but we're still kind of a small city. And Denver has so many phenomenal resources for brewers, and it's fun just to see the difference and how we'll be able to grow."
