Denver artist Scott Young's massive, neon "Wish You Were Here" piece has come down from the roof of the of the Museum of Contemporary Art Denver, and right now, its future is uncertain.
The much-Instagrammed installation that formerly sat atop Rule Gallery on Santa Fe Drive was on loan to the MCA from a private collection.
According to Nicki Maggiore at K Contemporary — the gallery at 1412 Wazee St. that represents Young and recently housed an exhibition of his other neon artwork — Young will put the piece in storage until it can find a new home.
The 10-by-12-foot sign was first installed atop Rule Gallery when it moved to 530 Santa Fe Drive in the fall of 2016. It was installed at the MCA in April of 2017.
In October of last year, the MCA announced its Elevated Heartbeat Campaign, which will funnel $18 million from donations into the expansion of the exhibition and programming platform, the launch of a civic art initiative and building renovations that include a stage on the roof.
