Denver police have arrested 26-year-old Elias Anthony Dominguez in the Jan. 27 burglary of the Colorado State Capitol.
Security cameras caught Dominguez entering the building through a faulty security door and roaming the first and second floors, breaking a chair, glass cabinets and sculptures, according to the arrest affidavit.
He also left behind his jacket, cell phone and blood.
A timeline of security camera footage in the affidavit shows that Dominguez's destruction spree lasted hours. He's seen entering the building at 2:28 a.m., then rummaging through some things, breaking a couple sculptures, throwing some unidentified items off the second floor balcony, setting off a fire extinguisher and waving at a security camera before leaving the building without the jacket he came in wearing at 5:06 a.m. Somewhere along the way, he cut his hands, leaving "suspected blood" at the scene.
Officers found a cell phone inside the jacket, and a message displayed on the lock screen included the name Elias. Later, someone responding to a Crime Stoppers bulletin identified the suspect in the photos as Elias Dominguez.
He is charged with second degree burglary. (In case you're wondering, burglary involves breaking and entering with the intention to commit a felony or theft. No actually thievery has to occur.)
Investigators are still awaiting the results of a DNA test.
