Denver’s city-owned golf courses will reopen Wednesday, Mayor Michael Hancock announced in a press conference Monday.

The relaxation comes as Denver public health officials see “very encouraging signs” that physical distancing measures are working to slow the spread of COVID-19, the respiratory disease caused by a new coronavirus. The rate of new cases is steadying, Hancock said.

Golf courses will open with restrictions that will be posted on the website for city-owned golf courses.

Nearly 100 people have died from COVID-19 in Denver, Hancock said, with about 1,750 people diagnosed positive. But city hospitals still have about one-third of their intensive care unit beds open and two-thirds of ventilators available.
