“A rising tide lifts all boats” most recently rang true for local movie theaters that welcomed a wave of attendees thanks to the Barbenheimer storm. Some locations hit single-week box office records and others saw a turnout they hadn’t seen since before the pandemic.

Now, theaters will hope to continue in the moviegoing momentum by celebrating National Cinema Day this Sunday, August 27.

The Cinema Foundation is putting on the second annual event, where theaters across the country will be offering every movie, every showing in every format for just $4. Last year, an estimated 8.1 million moviegoers bought $3 tickets during the inaugural National Cinema Day.

This year, more than 3,000 locations with approximately 30,000 available screens will be participating in the one-day event.
