If you're traveling for Labor Day, plan for bigger crowds than last year at Denver International Airport (DIA).

The world's third busiest airport (as of 2022) has earned a reputation for long security lines, especially during popular travel times. June was the airport's busiest month ever.

And as the busy summer travel season comes to a close this Labor Day weekend, DIA estimates that more than 410,000 passengers will move through the airport, with the busiest days being Friday and Monday. That's about a 6.2% increase in travelers going through security compared to 2022, according to airport officials.

Here are some tips for navigating the airport.

Travelers without TSA PreCheck or CLEAR can sign up for expedited security lines through the airport's new DEN Reserve program that lets travelers book a time to go through TSA, skipping the usually long lines. Passengers sign up for it three days in advance online, and can find more information here.

For passengers driving and parking at the airport, space is limited, with one lot closed for repairs, while the others often fill up during busy weekends. Travelers can also park at the Pikes Peak and Longs Peak lots for $8 per day, and take a shuttle to the airport. The airport parking lots are also known for high rates of car theft -- something DIA is trying to combat with new security measures.

And remember that DIA has three security sections: North, South and A Bridge. The first area you encounter might not be the fastest; you can check live wait times on the airport's website. Pro tip: A Bridge is a bit of a longer walk, but sometimes has shorter lines (it's also where the DEN Reserve lane is located).

Most importantly, give yourself time.

"For those traveling this holiday, it's important to give yourself plenty of time to get through security and navigate the airport before your flight," wrote DIA officials Thursday. "Passengers should arrive inside the airport at least two hours before their scheduled boarding time and be prepared for longer lines."
