Warrants can lead to more than just arrests. Landlords can deny housing. Employers can deny employment. And visitation rights can be stripped.
Understandably, if you have a warrant, you might want out of it -- and the city's criminal justice system wants to help.
Twice-a-year, the City of Denver hosts a Fresh Start warrant clearance event, where you can meet with a defense attorney and possibly have an outstanding warrant cleared.
Fresh Start will take place this Saturday, Oct. 28, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Assessment, Intake and Diversion Center at 1370 Elati St.
The attorneys at the event will help you either resolve your court case or set a new date for you to go before a judge.
Warrant clearances may be applied to the following cases, according to a statement from the District Attorney's office:
- A Denver misdemeanor case;
- A Denver municipal case, including criminal traffic offenses;
- A probation violation in Denver County or Municipal Court;
- And/or a failure to appear at a 2nd advisement in a Class 4, 5 or 6 non-Victim Rights Act (VRA) felony.
Other cases, including high-level felony cases, Victims Rights Act cases and domestic violence cases are not eligible for a waiver.
In July, 57 people attended the event, and 77 cases were resolved or rescheduled.
The Denver County Court, Denver District Attorney's Office, Office of the Municipal Public Defender, Office of the Colorado State Public Defender, Alternate Defense Counsel, Denver County Probation, Denver Pretrial Services, Denver City Attorney's Office, and the Denver Sheriff Department are collaborating on the event.
