Wax Trax Records will open a 1,000-square-foot storefront in Aurora’s Stanley Marketplace, where it has run a kiosk in the hallway since 2024.
The new space — the fourth permanent Wax Trax in the metro — will allow the record store to expand its offerings and create a hub for vinyl, occasional live music and community.
Wax Trax will move from its kiosk into a nearby storefront previously occupied by the local streetwear company Abstract. That store, meanwhile, has moved to a different space at Stanley Marketplace.
The store’s owners decided to sign the lease after the company’s best Record Store Day sales ever.
It also came before Denver’s Magnetic Capital announced it would buy Stanley Marketplace from longtime co-owners Westfield Co. and Flightline Ventures for $36.7 million.
Wax Trax co-owner Pete Stidman was initially concerned the new owners would turn Stanley into a run-of-the-mill mall, but now, he says, that doesn’t seem to be in the cards.
“It is a cool space — all local businesses,” Stidman said. “It sounds like they’re going to stay true to that. That’s the most important thing to us.”
The Wax Trax grand opening will be Saturday, July 18, from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., and bands will play from noon to 3 p.m.
