Denver firefighters responded Wednesday to a small fire in a hotel under construction in downtown near the Colorado Convention Center and Hyatt Regency Denver hotel.
Flames and a large plume of smoke were spotted at 1453 California St. on Wednesday morning, according to a tweet the Denver Fire Department sent at 11:43 a.m.
The fire department reported the fire was extinguished at 12:06 p.m.
One construction worker was transported to Denver Health with smoke injuries. No other injuries were immediately reported, and it's unclear what started the fire.
The structure at the southwest corner of California and 15th streets is slated to be the dual-branded hotel by AC Hotels by Marriott Hotel and a Starwood-branded Le Méridien Hotel, according to city records.
The 20-story, 488-room hotel was expected to be complete in 2017, according to the Denver Infill blog. It's unclear if Wednesday's fire will push the opening date back.
Indiana-based Hotden LLC paid $6.6 million for the property in 2012.
Hotden is registered to the same address in Merrillville, Indiana as the hotel investment company White Lodging Services Corp.
