On the 6th annual Colorado Gives Day, donors from all over Colorado, the U.S. and the world gave a total of $33.8 million to Colorado charities, more than $5 million more in donations than last year.
Established in 2010, Colorado Gives Day is an annual initiative designed to encourage online philanthropy statewide and comes second only to New Year’s Eve as the second largest donation day of the year.
“We’ve seen Colorado Gives Day go from a $1 million goal in 2010 to collectively raising more than $145 million for nonprofits,” FirstBank CEO John Ikard said in a statement.
According to Community First Foundation, 24 hours yielded 145,763 donations to 2,111 nonprofits in increments ranging from $10 to $1.48 million. The Schlessman Family YMCA received the largest donation, while Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains received the most donations, totaling to more than 3,000.
Only donations made through coloradogives.org from 12 a.m. to 11:59 p.m. on Dec. 6 were tallied. Donations came from all across the nation and the world.
