Are you ready to have your very own never-ending topic of conversation with friends, loved ones and total strangers?
Adopt a dog! Or maybe a cat. The point is: The Denver Animal Shelter is discounting its pet adoption fees to $14 for all animals one year and older this weekend, Feb. 11 and Feb. 12, in honor of Valentine's Day.
Dog adoption fees are the most steeply discounted, as they normally run $130 per adult dog.
"But, Denverite.com," you say, "I want a puppy or a kitty." False. You want a dog or a cat. There's a much reduced chance that a grown animal will soil your rug. Also, I read that dogs never really get smarter than a toddler, so, you'll definitely get your fix of "cute and mildly dumb" in either case.
Anyway, your adoption from the municipal shelter will come with a spay or neuter (for the animal), vaccinations and a one-year pet license.
Also, keep in mind that there are a limited number of animals to adopt, as this is not Walmart. I see 10 dogs and 10 cats listed online, but there actually are 16 dogs and 14 cats at the shelter, according to city spokeswoman Kerra Jones, and more may become available over the weekend.
The shelter's at 1241 West Bayaud Avenue. Weekend hours are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., and you can call them at 720-913-1311.
P.S.: We've got big lists of Denver's top dogs over and under 50 dog years. Maybe your friend could be on the next one.
