Have you seen the "Cash Me Outside How Bow Dah" video? The clip, in which a teenage girl asks Dr. Phil's audience to go outside and fight her, has been making the rounds on the internet.
Pass rushing specialist DeMarcus Ware is apparently one of the 10.3 million people who've watched the YouTube video. On Wednesday, he referenced it as a way to announce he's set to be a free agent.
Some wondered if Ware, 34, would retire after last season. A persistent back injury forced him into a reduced role each of the last two seasons. Ware played 68 percent of all defensive snaps in his first season with the Broncos in 2014. But that number fell to 36 percent in 2015 and then 28 percent in 2016. He sacked the quarterback four times in 10 games last year.
Broncos head coach Vance Joseph told reporters Wednesday that a deal to bring Ware back to Denver was a "work in progress."
“If we happen to acquire him back, it has to be a partnership on what role he plays, a financial partnership," Joseph said, per the Denver Post. "His leadership is bar none. It has to be agreement and make sense on both sides on all of those things.”
How much money Ware is seeking will be a sticking point. Pass-rushing outside linebackers Von Miller (13 1/2 sacks in 2016) and Shane Ray (eight sacks) should both be back in Denver the coming season. They figure to be the starters.
What Denver does to provide depth behind them remains unclear. Ware and fellow outside linebackers Dekoda Watson and Shaquil Barrett are all up for new deals.
Ware is one of the most accomplished pass rushers ever. He's accumulated 138 1/2 sacks over a 12-year NFL career. It doesn't sound like he's done yet either.
