Charlie Blackmon is your National League Player of the Month, and Greg Holland is your N.L. Reliever of the Month for May.
The MLB announced the awards Friday afternoon.
Blackmon, who hit six home runs and 22 RBI last month, leads the MLB in RBI with 47, a remarkable feat for a leadoff hitter. Denverite caught up with Blackmon, 30, about his breakout season earlier this week. Here’s the full story.
Holland, who recorded eight saves with a 1.17 ERA in May, has 20 saves in 22 appearances this season. He is the second pitcher to reach 20 saves in 22 or fewer appearances in a season since saves became an official stat in 1969. (Lee Smith recorded 20 in 21 appearances for the Orioles in 1994.)
The Rockies are 34-22. They begin a three-game set against the Padres in San Diego tonight.
