The Colorado Avalanche's 2017-18 schedule features a three-game road trip out East to begin the year, two games overseas and 12 day games.

Those are some of the early takeaways after looking over the Avalanche's 2017-18 schedule, which was released Thursday.

The Avalanche open their season against the New York Rangers on Oct. 5 at Madison Square Garden. They'll then play at New Jersey and at Boston before their Oct. 11 home opener against the Bruins at the Pepsi Center.

A month later, Colorado will play a pair of games overseas as a part of the 2017 SAP NHL Global Series. The Avalanche are scheduled to take on the Ottawa Senators on Nov. 10 and Nov. 11 in Stockholm, Sweden.

And there's another oddity in the Avalanche's schedule: They play eight home games this year that begin at 1 p.m. Three of those games are in January, one is February and four are in March.

Colorado also plays four afternoon games on the road, which means 12 of its 82 regular-season games will likely be over by the time someone who puts in a 9-5 shift gets home from work.
