The owners of Metro Urgent Care decided a health care facility is just what the former home of Cheeky Monk needs.

Metro Urgent Care is expected open sometime in September at the southwest corner of East Colfax Avenue and Pearl Street. The site is on pace to be the eighth or ninth location that the company opens in the metro area this year, said Brendon Lockhert, a co-owner of Metro Urgent Care.

"We identified Colorado as a very underserved market for entry-level care," Lockhert said Thursday.

He and his partners started opening urgent care locations in Colorado after finding success in Arizona and Nevada under the brand Urgent Care Extra. Banner Health bought the company's 32 locations in 2016, according to the Arizona Republic.

Lockhert said Metro Urgent Care has opened seven locations in Colorado since May. By mid-2018, the company hopes to more than triple that number to 22 locations, he said. Two other spots are planned further west along Colfax Avenue in Lakewood — one in a former Burger King and another in a former TCF Bank.

Metro Urgent Care is looking for locations with a high profile for its "hospitality meets health care" sites. The location on East Colfax will be the company's first within the city limits of Denver, Lockhert said.

Cheeky Monk Belgian Beer Cafe closed in July 2016 ahead of its building being purchased in October by Dallas-based Leon Capital Group for $3.75 million.

Lost Highway Brewing Co., which was leasing space in the same building, closed up shop in the spring and moved to Centennial. The space is being filled by CityVet. The Dallas-based veterinarian chain plans to open in two to three months, said John Debrovner, a vice president of Leon Capital Group overseeing the Colorado market.
