Historic church on Colfax, last home to the L2 Church, is up for sale
The nearly 90-year-old church at the corner of East Colfax Avenue and Columbine Street is up for sale.
The 22,295-square-foot building on 1477 Columbine St., historically known as the Fifth Church of Christ Scientist and most recently occupied by the L2 Church, is listed on the market for a cool $3.65 million.
“It was completed in 1929, and it was designed by a prominent architect Harry Edbrooke,” said Annie Levinsky, executive director of Historic Denver.
Edbrooke has quite a few notable accomplishments on Colfax, including the Ogden Theatre and the Bluebird Theater.
At the time of its construction, the Denver Post described the church as, “A beautiful edifice in Italian Renaissance style on a terrace overlooking the City Park Esplanade.”
The expansive building is in a prime location for high-use purposes, sitting on Colfax and right across the street from Denver East High School, the Carla Madison Denver Recreation Center, Tattered Cover, Twist & Shout and the Sie Film Center. Due to its location and size, the listing broker suggests it could potentially be used for office or retail space.
We reached out to the L2 Church for comment on its future. We’ll will update here if and when we learn more.
