Hopefully the gloomy weather we're expecting over the next few days and a little bit of rain doesn't keep too many folks inside this week. There's a lot of buzz around the first Sunday of ¡Viva! Streets Denver being this weekend. On a personal note, Fort Greene Bar has had my attention lately as a cool spot to party on a Friday night.
Also, free outdoor concerts at Ruby Hill Park all summer? Sign me up.
Here are four events worth checking out if you're interested in bike rides down Broadway, summer yoga, outdoor concert series and silent discos.
¡Viva! Streets Denver
Date: Sunday, May 14, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Location: Broadway and Welton Street
Approximately 3.5 miles of Denver streets are closing down to cars and open to the public. That means you can walk, bike, roll, jog and even dance down the heart of the city without the fear of incoming traffic.
This free community event series will celebrate Denver's vibrant neighborhoods and local businesses over four Sundays from May through August, starting with this Sunday, May 14.
The event will take place on Broadway from Alameda to 20th St and on Welton St from 20th St to Five Points. Here's a map:
Dogs, strollers, electric scooters and e-bikes are allowed at this event, but please maintain a safe speed and be mindful of everyone on the route.
Let's Heal Together: Summer Yoga in the Park
Date: Sunday, May 14, 10:30-11:30 a.m.
Location: 2200 York St.
This summer yoga in the park series is a beginner yoga class at City Park hosted by Charismatic Movement Yoga.
The event is open to everyone but it is, according to organizers, "especially catered to black and brown bodies" to explore healing, mindfulness and peer support through yoga.
A limited amount of yoga mats are available on a first come, first served basis and all classes are beginner friendly with modifications for accessibility.
There is a $10 suggested donation, and you can register for the event here.
Levitt Pavilion Free Concert Series
Date: Thursday, May 11, 6-10 p.m.
Location: 1380 W Florida Ave
Located in Ruby Hill Park, this outdoor venue is hosting a free concert series all summer long with shows highlighting artists of many musical styles.
This Thursday, May 11, Levitt Pavilion will be featuring a show from Etana, a two-time Grammy nominated artist and Jamaican powerhouse vocalist. The show will also feature reggae artist Wylie Jones, known for supporting artists such as Ziggy Marley and the legendary Itals.
This show is for all ages, rain or shine. More show information and RSVP can be found here.
Silent Disco at the Fort
Date: Friday, May 12, 8-12 a.m.
Location: 321 E. 45th Ave
Considered to be Globeville's hidden gem, Fort Greene has hosted many parties featuring local DJ's such as DJ Crl Crrll, DJ Hex Kitten and DJ Polyphoni.
This Friday, CiferNoise will host a silent disco with three musical channels featuring jams from the '80s, '90s, and early 2000s as well as Afrobeats, Latin and House/EDM.
