Anyone planning to eat, drink or be merry on Broadway Friday night or Saturday morning should plan for detours, as the city closes a stretch of the road by Interstate-25 between Mississippi Ave. and Exposition Ave. The southbound I-25 ramp onto Broadway will also be closed.

The closure will run from 7 p.m. Friday through noon Saturday. Drivers should reroute through Alameda Ave, University Blvd., Louisiana Ave., Santa Fe Dr. and Kalamath St.

The construction will set beams for a new bridge over Broadway that will lead to I-25. The City of Denver will also replace a ramp to I-25 and build a new part of Bannock St. to add a new entrance to the RTD Park-n-Ride. The work will reconstruct parts of Lincoln St., Broadway, Kentucky Ave. and Ohio Ave., and connect the Broadway bike lane currently under construction to the RTD station.

"This work is part of a larger project to improve travel and safety for all, including those who walk/roll, bike, drive and take transit," said Department of Transportation and Infrastructure spokesperson Nancy Kuhn on Tuesday.
