The Radisson Hotel in Globeville will be the latest hotel converted into shelter as part of Mayor Mike Johnston's efforts to shelter 1,000 people by the end of 2023. City Council unanimously approved the nearly $10.4 million lease on Monday.

Denver previously rented blocks of rooms at the hotel, but as part of the Mayor's push to move people from encampments into shelter, the city will lease the entire building through the end of 2024. The site, located at 4849 Bannock St., includes 220 rooms, which the city expects will serve around 250 people at any given time.

City Council also approved a $2 million contract with Bayaud Enterprises Inc., which will run meals, support services and other operations at the hotel.

The city plans to bring the Radisson online before the end of the year, as the Johnston administration pushes to meet its Dec. 31 deadline to get 1,000 people off the streets. According to the city's dashboard, 550 people have moved indoors since the program started last summer.

Another $3.1 million contract with the Saint Francis Center, also passed Monday, will cover operations at the Comfort Inn, another non-congregate shelter site in operation since early 2023. That site, located at 4685 Quebec St. in District 8, includes 136 units. So far, District 8 is hosting nearly half of the city's shelter beds.

The city is hosting a community information about the hotel on Thursday at 6 p.m. at Johnson Recreation Center at 4809 Race St. People can also join online.
