A new year brings new chances to peruse local galleries and exhibitions in Denver on First Friday Art Walks.

And as part of this week's January art walk on Santa Fe a new solo show coupled with an opportunity to meet the creators of Denverite and Colorado Public Radio's podcast, Off the Walls.

Opening Friday, Jan. 5 from 6-9 p.m. is "Conscious with the Energy," a solo show by ADSF's current emerging artist in residence Johnny Draco. The show will feature a series of new pieces created by the multidisciplinary artist as well as live mural painting inside of the Art District on Santa Fe studio and headquarters at 858 Santa Fe Dr.

"The pieces presented in this show are a reflection of being present and flowing much like water. Adapting to any situation and becoming more in tune with oneself, as well as being conscious of how energy is used." writes artist Johnny Draco in his statement for the upcoming show.

As a special popup event scheduled from 6-8 p.m. during the reception, attendees will get a chance to meet Emily Williams and Kibwe Cooper, hosts of Denverite's Off the Walls podcast.

The podcast, released in 2023, explores murals in Denver's street art scene through the voices of artists, activists and other Denverites who have shaped the scene. The podcast dives into the images and messages painted during the June 2020 Black Lives Matter protests, local artists' response to Denver's male-dominated street art scene and the story of Welton Street's mural of Fathima Dickerson.
