The Denver area is getting a dozen new fast charging stations for electric vehicles, as part of a $21 million investment in federal dollars allocated by the state last week.

The money will build 46 charging sites with 290 ports across the state. The chargers will be placed along a set of routes aimed at making it easier to travel using electric vehicles.

The charging stations come as the state continues to shell out thousands of dollars in rebates and discounts to encourage drivers to switch to electric cars.

The state said this round of chargers should come online by the end of 2025. Other grants for charging stations will continue to be available, which means more ports in the Denver area could continue to roll out in the next few years.
