Snacks on wheels will be a regular summer offering for two Denver metro area parks.

Denver Parks and Recreation (DPR) is launching the Feast in Denver’s Nature pilot program this summer to help activate and offer quality social experiences for park visitors.

Licensed food truck vendors chosen for the food truck pilot will commit to providing food and non-alcoholic beverage services at Washington Park and Paco Sanchez Park during certain days and hours of operation.

“DPR has received about 15 applications for the pilot program,” said Yolanda Quesada, DPR spokesperson. “[DPR] plans to select between six and twelve vendors to adequately cover the dates and times of the pilot program.”

Food trucks will participate in two summer vending sessions: June 5 - July 17 and July 20 - Aug. 31. Each location can accommodate a maximum of three vendors per session.

Washington Park and Paco Sanchez Park were chosen to help monitor the success at one regional and one neighborhood park that draw visitors from across the Denver metro area.

DPR’s existing temporary vending permits require that stationary set ups or push carts operate in Denver Parks only when associated with a public event or a special occasion permit. This pilot program aims to enhance food and beverage availability by removing this requirement for interested food truck vendors.

“The pilot program also allows a cluster of vendors in one location to expand park user choice as opposed to just one vendor per temporary vending location,” Quesada explained.

Selected food truck vendors must have all necessary licenses to operate a mobile food facility and pay $300 per session.
