The weekend's coming up, and that means protests.
With President Donald Trump and Republicans in Congress continuing to talk about getting rid of the Affordable Care Act, the theme this week is protecting health care access.
The Protect Our ACA Healthcare Rally is scheduled from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday in Civic Center Park.
Concerns about the ACA have been a major theme at town halls packed with activists and angry constituents. Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders and New York Sen. Chuck Schumer, the Senate Minority Leader, called for rallies to protect the ACA this Saturday in an open letter issued earlier this month.
“We are encouraging Democratic senators to lead rallies in their states. This is not a Democratic issue, a Republican issue or an Independent issue,” the senators said in a letter.
“The overwhelming majority of Americans, regardless of political persuasion, understand that we have to go forward on health care, not backwards.”
Denver's event is organized by Community for Unity, which has organized many of the Saturday protests.
"Make your boldest signs, prepare your loudest voices, and bring your warmest hugs," the event's Facebook page says. "Our healthcare and overall well-being is in danger, and we need to show solidarity in support. As always, this will be a peaceful, family-friendly event."
