On Oct. 8, 2016, the nonprofit History Flight gathered the families of five WWII soldiers killed on the beaches of Tarawa, a crucial waypoint for Allied forces to enter the Pacific theatre. That morning they buried one of these soldiers, PFC Ronald Vosmer, near his parents and grandparents in Fairmount Cemetery. Vosmer was the the most recently buried of 23 identified bodies discovered in a mass grave at Tarawa. His homecoming means a closure for his family and the end of a 73 year-long mystery.
