If you recently picked up a gold coin that said "H&D" and "good for one free dram," you now know where to use it: Hearth & Dram.

Sources who are not pirates or leprechauns say the new, independent restaurant will open at 1801 Wewatta St., in the Union Station neighborhood, in January.

Hearth & Dram, lead by executive chef Jeffrey Wall, will offer a familiar Denver dining experience of rustic American fare that is "adventurous and approachable," according to a press release. The menu will be seasonal and locally sourced when possible.

It will also offer a selection of more than 350 kinds of whiskey, so don't lose that coin. It will also have whiskey on tap, an extensive cocktail menu, local beers and wine. Really ambitious whiskey drinkers will be able to opt for table-side cart service featuring reserve whiskey cocktails.

Among the menu items are:

  • Bison tartare with toast, preserved egg yolk and sunflower oil.
  • Farro spaghetti with prawns, guanciale, grilled leek and fennel.
  • Medium-rare beef short rib with salsify, cracked wheat and fried garlic and tamari.
  • Aged porterhouse steak for two with Pappy Van Winkle steak sauce.
  • Five-day, advanced reservation-only “Whole Beast Feasts” for groups of six to ten people.

The restaurant will have an open kitchen with a 7-foot wood-fired hearth and a custom rotisserie. The space will seat 118 and offer a patio with a view of Union Station.

Hearth & Dram hours will be 5-10 p.m. weekdays and 5-10:30 p.m. on the weekends. Lunch will come shortly after opening.
