Starting Tuesday, Sept. 26, the Regional Transportation District (RTD) will repair downtown light rail sections on some of RTD's oldest operating lines. The maintenance will run until the following Wednesday, Oct. 4.

RTD will close the downtown loop and Welton Street routes, along with work at 14th and California Streets.

Here's how service will be affected:

  • The D and H lines will detour to Union Station, skipping service at Colfax at Auraria, Theater District/Convention Center and the downtown loop (16th/California, 18th/California, 16th/Stout and 18th/Stout).
  • RTD will suspend the L line during maintenance (riders can take bus 43 as a detour).

The repairs will also affect drivers and pedestrians. RTD will close part of the 14th and California Streets intersection, plus one lane of traffic and the parking lane on 14th Street. RTD will also close two lanes on California Street.

"The rail was installed 28 years ago as part of the D Line, or Central Corridor Line, which is RTD's oldest operating line," RTD said in a statement Wednesday about the maintenance. "The rail has experienced settling due to heavy usage by an increasing amount of train and vehicular traffic."
