King Soopers will be trading in old digs for new ones in south Denver.
The King Soopers at the Belcaro Center on 825 S. Colorado Blvd. will close on Tuesday, June 2, marking the end of a strip mall that will soon turn into a multifamily housing development. Faded signs of RadioShack and Mike’s Camera remain at the surrounding storefronts that have sat empty for years.

In an effort to offload inventory at the store, prices have been heavily slashed.
Shoppers in the area could instead turn to a newly constructed $37.1 million King Soopers location, about a mile south at 4201 E. Arkansas Ave in the Virginia Village neighborhood. A sign outside the store advertises a grand opening on Wednesday, June 3.
King Soopers broke ground on the new 103,000-square-foot store in 2025. Previously, the land was the Colorado Department of Transportation’s headquarters. A developer tried but failed to build affordable housing on the site in 2021.

The chain said the new store will include a Murray’s Cheese Shop, a King Soopers gas station and a Starbucks.
The new location could also fill the void left behind when a nearby Safeway closed in the Cory-Merrill neighborhood in 2025.
